I just interviewed an author about how his recently published book has helped him professionally.
His answer was interesting.
Jay Young is a a management expert who has worked with quite a gamut of professionals, from senior executives in Fortune 500 companies to people in start-up businesses. He’s also consulted with a lot of nonprofit organizations. From his experience, he wrote his book, Are You Ineffective? Discovering and Resolving the 202 Sure Signs of Ineffectiveness. (It’s a good book, by the way. If you desire to improve yourself as an individual, no matter what you do, you’ll find this book useful.)
Jay said that writing this book helped him hone his own thinking, and took his expertise to a new level by forcing him to think through his unique take on this subject. Writing a book required a a process of research and synthesizing his knowledge into a format that would help a lot of other people and organizations become more effective.
This has raised the level of Jay’s expertise, in his own self-perception and in the eyes of others.
Having a published book also opened doors to access people like Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, and other well-known people who are now exposed to Jay’s expertise, and room whom Jay received responses.
If you have published a book, I would love to hear how it has helped you professionally. I may be able to give you more exposure by having you talk about your experience on an upcoming teleseminar. Simply send an email to diane at wordstoprofit.com, and tell me your story.
Please include your phone number, and tell me about your book. I may be able to help you promote it through some new opportunities I’m involved in.
If you are a business person or professional who has not yet written a book, but are considering it, I invite you to get a copy of my Special Report, 13 Ways a Book Can Boost Your Business.
(I ask you to sign up for it so I make sure you receive news of the upcoming teleseminars I’ll be doing on the topic.)
Let me hear from you, one way or another, okay?
