How Many Ways Did Jay Conrad Levinson Repurpose His Content?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

The current “Article of the Week,” and tomorrow’s teleseminar with Jeff Herring, are both about repurposing content. That is, repackaging your message so that it reaches more people in more ways (and makes you more money than one book would).

I thought I’d share a quote from Jay Conrad Levinson, founder of the best-selling Guerilla Marketing series of books and information products, as it’s a great example of two things.

One, some of the different ways one can repurpose content.

Two, to give you a glimpse of the financial possibilities that open up as you begin to “think beyond the book.”

Here’s Jay’s quote:

“Someone once asked me how much I made for my first Guerilla Marketing book. The answer I gave was $10 million. The book itself only paid me about $35,000 in royalties, but the speaking engagements, spinoff books, newsletters, columns, bootcamps, consulting, and wide open doors resulted in the remaining $9,965,000.”

How many ways did Jay repurpose his content?

How many ways can YOU repurpose your content? (If you have a question on this, ask it now!)

Ask Your Question about Repurposing Content to Sell More

Friday, July 27th, 2007

On next week’s Your Book Publishing Coach teleseminar, I’ve invited a special guest, Jeff Herring, “the Internet article g uy,” to answer questions with me on how to repurpose your content to sell more.

Repurposing content is THE secret to making a lot of money from your expertise, as I wrote in my Article of the Week. If you have a question about how to repurpose your content, please ask now!

Then, join us next Tuesday evening at 8 pm Central as we answer your questions.

BTW, you’ll be able to access next week’s teleseminar in two ways–either by phone or on the Web (which will save you long distance charges if you don’t have a calling package, or are overseas). You’ll also be able to ask a question during the call, right online!

Ask your question and sign up now so you get all the call-in details. There will be a replay as well.

A “Tour” of the Virtual Book Tour Flow Chart

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Since so many people have been curious about Ask-type Virtual Book Tours, we put together a visual and audial “tour” of how the whole system works for this week’s Resource.

(Have you read my article on repurposing content yet? Do you get why I’m doing this?)

As I mentioned on this week’s teleseminar and in the VBT Flow Chart explanation, you can do and benefit from a VBT at nearly any stage of your publishing process–even before the book is written. (In that case, you can do an Ask campaign and get people to sample your book’s contents and give you feedback. If they help you write the book, they will be thrilled and feel ownership of it.)

Check out the VBT Flow Chart (developed and refined by Alex Mandossian), and contact Words to Profit about setting up your Virtual Book–or Virtual Produt–Tour today.

Turn Your Knowledge into Cash

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

This week’s featured article is “The Secret to Turning Your Knowledge into Cash.” If you want to earn a good living from what you know and love to do, this article focuses on the one thing you absolutely must do in
order to achieve that.

The article will also help you get more out of next week’s teleseminar, in which I’ll be interviewing Jeff Herring, “the Internet article guy,” on how he has repurposed content–starting with articles. I think you’ll be excited about how many different ways there are now to repurpose and package your knowledge. It gets to be quite fun!

Teleseminar Replay Ready–Your Questions Answered

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

If you missed the live teleseminar last night, you can listen to the replay at your convenience now. At the following link, you may either listen or download it to some portable player.

Here are some of the questions I answered:

  • What is a Virtual Book Tour and how do they work?
  • Do I need an email list to do a VBT?
  • Can one do a VBT on a book not yet published?
  • If I’m writing a book, but it isn’t published yet, can I use some of the material verbatim in a magazine article?
  • Is it better to self-publish or use an established publisher?

Plus 6 more. There’s also a Virtual Book Tour System Flow Chart you can print out on that page (which I explained on the call). Check it out.

Questions I’ll be Answering Tonight

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

On tonight’s teleseminar, I’ll be answering some of the questions people asked me in my “Ask Your Book Publishing Coach” campaign.

(If you haven’t asked your question, there’s still time to do so.)

There were lots of questions about Virtual Book Tours from the Abundant Gifts Virtual Book Tour, so we’ll start with talking about that:

  • What is a Virtual Book Tour and how do they work?
  • Do I need an email list to do a VBT? (You may be surprised at the answer.)
  • Can one do a VBT on a book not yet published?

Some of the other questions I’ll be answering include:

  • “If I’m writing a book, but it isn’t published yet, can I use some of the material verbatim in a magazine article?”
  • “How do I sell my ebook, once it’s written?”
  • “Is it better to self-publish or use an established publisher?”
  • “If a writer is thinking about self-promoting a first book, what are some prose and cons about doing that? Also, approximately how much money may be needed to achieve a successful self-promotion?”
  • “What constitutes a best seller? Exactly how many books do you have to sell and in what time frame do you have to sell them to be considered a NY Times or Amazon best seller?”
  • “I have a book that’s nearly complete. I’m looking for support around getting it ready to print (POD-self publisher ready) and marketing as we work on it. What’s the best resource for me to partner with–a Virtual Assistant, a book coach, a writing coach,a copyeditor/proofreader, marketing resource/publicist, or some combination of all of the above?”

Tune in tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific, 8 p.m. Central, 9 p.m. Eastern to hear the answers to these and other questions (time permitting). Sign up and ask your question so you can get call-in details.

There will be a replay available. And if I don’t get to your question this time, there’s going to be a next time! So ask your question and get your answers.

It’s Time to Ask Your Questions about Publishing and Marketing …

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

On Tuesday, July 24, at 8 p.m. Central, I will be answering questions submitted to me in the Virtual Book Tour I did on Abundant Gifts, as well as new questions that have been submitted since.

If you haven’t yet asked YOUR burning question on writing, publishing, or marketing your book or information product, I invite you to ask your question now. When you do, you will receive all the call-in information for Tuesday. If we have time that evening (the call will last an hour), I will also take live questions from callers.

And if you can’t make the live call, you will receive the link for the recording the next day–if you’ve signed up, of course.

So ask your question now, okay? And I’ll look forward to answering it on Tuesday.

Recommended Resources to Get Your Web Site Up and Running–Inexpensively

Friday, July 20th, 2007

This week’s Recommended Resource has to do with setting up your Web site/blog as inexpensively and effectively as possible. I recommend where to go for the cheapest, but still very reliable, domain names, and the web hosting company I use, that has the most amazing array of Internet marketing features for your dollar.

In fact, the documentation this hosting company provides is
in itself an education in effective Internet marketing.

Read all about it!

Also, if you have a question about writing, publishing, promoting your book … Virtual Book Tours … setting up a Web site … anything else … ask me now.

I will be answering the questions on Tuesday, July 24, at 8 p.m. Central.

Writing for Children VBT Replay

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

If you want to write for children and you didn’t get to listen to the live Virtual Book Tour (or, Virtual Product Tour) I did with Suzanne Lieurance last night, you can now listen to the replay. You can also still ask a question, which Suzanne will answer on her blog.

We answered a lot of questions, ranging from how to get out of the slush pile, to whether you need an agent,to how you know whether you’re really a children’s author–and more. Suzanne really knows her stuff!

And she has a great offer going. In addition to her 2 CD and workbook set, “Tricks of the Trade: Learn to Write for Children,” you will get a free month in the Children’s Writers Coaching Club (4 coaching calls). The coaching includes a critique of your manuscript.

To me, Suzanne is offering a great deal of value for the price. I’m in her Writers on Call coaching club, and Suzanne is an excellent coach. When I do what she teaches, I always get good results.
